Tidung Island, a place for a quick escape from Jakarta

Everyone in Jakarta lately has been asking these questions:

Where is Tidung Island (Indonesia: Pulau Tidung)?
Is it beautiful?
How to get there?

Yes, in the last few months, this tiny island has gained popularity as an alternative weekend destination for the citizens.

Tidung is the name for a charming island north of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. There actually two islands called Pulau Tidung Besar (Greater island) and Pulau Tidung Kecil (Smaller Island). The two islands are connected by a long wooden bridge where visitors gathered to enjoy sunset and sunrise. The main pier of Tidung Island is located at Pulau Tidung Besar and can be reached in three hours using public regular boat from Muara Angke harbor, North Jakarta.

Tidung island is surrounded by small islands with beautiful corals for snorkeling and diving activities. In the first weekend of June 2010, I went there with eigth friends and it was amazing. However, I would rather suggest visiting this place on week days for a more exciting journey. During week end, the islands become so crowded since there usually about a thousand people from Jakarta and surrounding region come to spend weekend in this island.
